Kubernetes is a Greek term that means helmsman as in the driver of a container ship! I wanted to start by sharing a customer story for deploying Kubernetes at scale. Check out this 2 min video!
A brief but important history lesson:
Kubernetes is the most widely used free open source container management system, which originated at Google, Kubernetes is a platform for deploying maintaining and scaling containerized applications in 2017 VMware and pivotal launched Pivotal Container Service (PKS) and collaborated with Google Cloud to bring Kubernetes to enterprise customers. The K stands for Kubernetes. This offering illustrates our now four year commitment to delivering a secure developer ready environment to deploy and consume enterprise grade container services to our customers. Containers are a rapidly growing market. In fact VMware Google, Amazon Microsoft and others have teamed up to form the open container initiative, which is a lightweight, open governance structure formed to create open industry standards around container formats and run-time VMware is once again in the center of some of the most innovative initiatives happening in the industry.
